What kind of therapist are you?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Social workers are trained to "meet clients where they are at" without judgment and to focus on client strengths and capabilities. Social workers are also known for their adherence to a thorough code of ethics which includes the key core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships and competence.
What is your personal training and experience?
I began my career in social work in Recovery Court in Franklin Tennessee, working in the criminal justice system with men and women suffering from severe drug and alcohol addiction. I noticed that many of my clients in Recovery Court had complicated traumatic wounds that were the root cause of their addictions. I decided that I wanted to focus in on the deep and highly individual work of helping clients heal from their trauma. I became fully trained in EMDR, one of the most effective types of therapy for treating trauma. I moved to the Refuge Center in Franklin where I was afforded the opportunity to focus on doing this deep work. At the Refuge Center I treated men and women from the ages of 18 to almost 80 with a variety of diagnoses, however most often my clients were women with complex trauma stemming from neglect and abuse throughout their lifetimes. With EMDR as an effective tool I have been able to help many survivors begin to recover and find a path to healing.
